Why Submit Your Images for Exhibition?  

 Whether you are an amateur, student or professional photographer, acceptance and exhibition of your photographic work helps to provide public validation to your artistry and adds an excellent reference to your resume. By establishing yourself through exhibitions, you broaden your ability to have others review your portfolios and increase your credibility in the art community.

We at the Gallery of dedicate ourselves to helping artists gain recognition and exposure to the art community and those who support it. The Gallery of holds various exhibitions for both established and emerging artists, and for the benefit of local and national charities. Our ongoing events and workshops will also provide artists further exposure and recognition.

Jurors will be selected for all competitions and artist submissions unless the exhibit is curated solely by the gallery. The jurors selected for our competitions and exhibits are prominent in the art community, both nationally and locally, and include established photographers, artists, educators, writers, critics and leading fine art gallery owners. Jurors are selected based on their experience and recognition within the art community as well and their ability to enhance the recognition and reputation of the submitting photographic artists. Selection for exhibition and merit during competitions can also lead to other opportunities such as additional exhibitions and publications.

Submitted works are judged based on the quality of the images, not the name of the artist or whether or not they are amateur, professional, or artists already well established. Work selected for exhibitions and juried competitions will exhibit in the gallery for a one month period (due to scheduling some exhibits might be slightly shorter or longer).

Portfolio Submissions  

The Gallery of actively seeks out significant new artists as well as established artists for our exhibitions. Exhibitions can be shared, collaborative, or solo shows. Portfolios can represent works of differing subjects or they can be a cohesive body of work representing a single theme.

A portfolio submission should contain at least 8 to 12 images demonstrating the artist’s abilities. In the case of a single theme work containing only a few images, several additional images, thematic or not, should be submitted so that the Gallery’s Portfolio Review Committee can get an understanding of the artist. An introductory cover letter and an artist’s statement about the theme would also be helpful, as well as an Artist’s Bio, though these are not required for review. Initial submissions can be made via our submissions form or by delivering or mailing a CD of images along with the Portfolio Review fee to the Gallery – address can be found on the contact page. In rare cases, unframed matted prints may be requested for inspection before we accept images for exhibition.

Much like other galleries, the Gallery of collects a commission on artwork sales for the operation of the gallery and to provide photographic education, programs and opportunities to the underprivileged, students and seniors interested in the photographic arts. Most commission schedules are negotiated per artist depending on many factors such as printing and delivery methods. Because of the nature of our gallery and the images displayed; artwork on exhibit is not required to be listed for sale (NFS). For exhibitions, the Gallery of provides title cards for prints displayed , a reception, and regular gallery hours for viewing.

For those wishing to establish a deeper relationship with the Gallery, we offer further promotional benefits such as being featured in our online Artist Gallery and promotion at the local, state and national art events that we attend. Please contact our Gallery Director for fee schedules.

Calls for Artist Open Submissions 

In so many camera club and art type contests, it’s more about winning than showing or experiencing art. In the Art world, it’s about being taken seriously, about credibility for the artist and acknowledgment of the hard work and often sacrifices made in producing their art. Here at the Gallery of, it’s about supporting the art as well as finding and supporting emerging and established artists. It’s about providing a community for connections and education. It is also about supporting the charities that are committed to helping the needs of our world and its peoples.

The Gallery of is currently scheduling various exhibitions for the up-coming  year.  Some exhibits may occasionally follow a specific theme. Our exhibits are open to all photographers and artists; amateur, professional or student (under 18 with parental consent). The gallery typically will select digital images for our digital monitor display and approximately 12-14 outstanding framed prints to be hung for a one-month period. Gallery of Hope Member Artist and Solo Artists at their request will be given the option of having a small gallery of their images and an Artist’s Bio displayed in our online Artist Gallery  for the length of their exhibit. The Artist’s Bio may contain a link to their personal web page (go to the Suggestions for Artists Statement and Bio information below for assistance).

Fees For Open Exhibit Submissions and Portfolio Reviews 

The Open Exhibit and 50/50 Contest submission fees are  $10.00 USD for EACH image.  There is no limit to the number of submitted images. For more than 10 images you must complete and submit the form a second time. The Portfolio Review fee is $75.00 USD for TEN (10) images.  Please complete all fields as indicated by (Required) along with any additional information that you would like to provide.

Submitting Entries for Jurors:

Unless otherwise indicated for special exhibits or contests. Digital files are the PREFERRED means of entry. Electronic entries may be submitted via our submission page. Entry forms, submissions on a CDR and fees should be snail mailed to: Island Images Prof. Photo, P.O. Box 690773, Vero Beach, FL 32969. To be fair, entries postmarked after the deadline date will not be accepted. Submissions may be delivered in person BEFORE 5:00 p.m. by deadline date, directly to the gallery by appointment to: Gallery of, 2036 14th Avenue, Ste. 101, Vero Beach, FL 32960 (772) 643-6994.

Preparing Images to Send:

Please follow these requirements when preparing your images for Calls for Artists and Contest submissions.

Your images are viewed as RGB images using a standard sRGB profile as flattened, 8 bit JPEG files. The largest dimension (width or height) should be 1600 pixels with the other dimension proportional to your image. This equates to a largest dimension of approximately 5.33 inches with a resolution 300 pixels per inch. Use JPG compression quality of 8 to 10 as this compression level will not affect the quality of images viewed on a monitor.

Image file names cannot include any of the following characters nor have more than 25 characters. Please do not include #,$,&, periods or other similar characters as part of the file name.

** Do not watermark or use digital signatures on the face of any images

Preferred labeling would be as follows:  Last Name, underscore, First Name, underscore, TITLE.
(i.e. Doe_John_SEASHORE)

Note: Images previously accepted for exhibition at Gallery of are NOT eligible for the non-themed exhibitions. Images previously submitted but not accepted for exhibition may be resubmitted as often as you wish.


Acceptance Notification 

Everyone who submits will be notified as to their status by email or phone at least ten days prior to the show.

Exhibit Prints - (This applies to accepted work)

The Gallery of strives for uniform framing as the image is the artist’s work, not the framing. Uniform framing is less distracting to visitors when compared to an exhibition with many different colored mats and framing styles.

At the same time, the Gallery recognizes that some work (avant-garde, mixed media and experimental work, for example) incorporates the “framing” as an integral part of the presentation. If this applies to your work, please contact the Gallery.

The gallery is now accepting Gallery Wrapped Canvas images framed or unframed as long as the edge is finished in the continuation of the image or black edge with no staples showing. We are also accepting metal prints on a floater frame with the edge either framed or unframed. If you have any questions please contact the gallery by phone.

The Gallery of, on occasion will hold some small works exhibitions. Otherwise, the Gallery will require that traditionally framed work adhere to the following:

Minimal Size Requirements

  •     Minimum frame/mat height / width dimension of 20 inches with the other dimension proportional.
  •     Minimum image height / width dimension of 14 inches with the other dimension proportional.
  •     External frame dimensions may not exceed 40 inches / 100 cm in width without first checking with the Gallery.

Framing Accepted Work

  • A Black wood, metal or composite material professional-quality frame with a minimum of 1” width will be required. We can supply frames when requested.
  • Single, double or triple White or Black mats only (off white is not acceptable).
  • All pieces must have proper hanging rings and wire attached with the apex of the wire NO LESS than THREE (3) inches from the top of the frame; no saw tooth hangers.A $10.00 wiring fee will apply to non-compliant works.
  • *If your image does not fall within these requirements, please contact the Gallery for permission to print or mat outside these requirements.
  • The Gallery reserves the right to reject any work that is not representative of the juried submission or does not meet the stated requirements.
  • To encourage participation by photographers from around the world, the gallery offers optional economical printing and framing services. Additional details will be provided to accepted artists upon request.

Printing, Framing and Frame Usage 

To encourage participation by photographers from around the world, the gallery offers optional and economical printing and framing services as well as frames usage. We have a limited number of standard frames available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Frames available include (MEDIUM) 24"x36" and (LARGE) 30"x40" frames. (This is the mat size - you provide a matted or canvas picture).

The usage price is $20.00 for Medium frames and $30.00 for Large frames for the duration of the exhibit and includes the cost of mounting your picture in the frame. Frame usage is intended for out-of-area artists only. Please contact the gallery for frame size availability and to secure a reservation - payment can then be made at the GALLERY PAYMENT CENTER on our website.

Sale of Works

Much like other galleries, the Gallery of collects a commission on artwork sales for the operation of the gallery and to provide photographic education, programs and opportunities to the underprivileged, students and seniors interested in the photographic arts. Most commission schedules are negotiated per artist depending on many factors such as printing and delivery methods. A standard commission is usually 50%.  Because of the nature of our gallery and the images displayed; artwork on exhibit is not required to be listed for sale (NFS).

Duration and Return of Images

All accepted images shall remain at the Gallery for the FULL DURATION of the exhibit month. Unsold pieces must be picked up within 15 days of the conclusion of that month's exhibit. Artists who want their works shipped back must remit return shipping cost, labeling, and sufficient re-useable packaging when shipping works to the Gallery. Works not picked up will incur a $5.00 per day storage fee starting on the sixteenth (16) day from the close of the exhibit. Works not picked up within 45 days from the conclusion of the exhibit will become the property of Gallery of and Island Images Professional Photography Studio, Inc.

Hold Harmless (Liability)  

While every effort will be made to protect exhibited art, the artist hereby and forever discharge, release and hold harmless Gallery of, Island Images Professional Photography Studio, Inc and their agents, of and from, any loss, theft or damage to my person or property regardless of the cause or source while in the possession or under the supervision of The Gallery of Artists’ entering this exhibit acknowledges and accepts the aforementioned as a condition of entry. HOLD HARMLESS FORM MUST BE SIGNED

Usage Rights

By submitting any material, (not limited to photos or video) for our exhibitions or contests to us you are verifying that you are the owner of the material, or that are submitting for and with the express consent of the owner of the material. You are also confirming that you are at least eighteen years of age or older. Whether your submitted material is chosen for that particular exhibition or contest or not, you grant the Gallery of and Island Images Professional Photography Studio, Inc. the right to use their images for the purpose of marketing the exhibition, marketing the Gallery’s programs and subsequent display on the Gallery’s website of past exhibitions. Also by submitting via our online form or emailing material to us, you are granting us, and anyone authorized by us, a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, unrestricted, worldwide license to use, copy, exploit, modify, transmit, sell, create derivative works from, distribute, and/or publicly perform or display such material, in whole or in part, in any manner or medium, now known or hereafter developed, for any purpose.

The foregoing grant shall include the right to exploit any proprietary rights in such posting or submission, including, but not limited to, rights under copyright, trademark, service mark or patent laws under any relevant jurisdiction. Also, in connection with the exercise of such rights, you grant us, and anyone authorized by us, the right to identify you as the author of any of your postings or submissions by name, email address or screen name, as we deem appropriate.

Suggestions for Artist’s Statement and Bio  
(Artists Statements and Bios are for solo and dual artists only)

An Artists Statement is a brief text intended to explain, justify, and contextualize your body of work. An artist statement is the what, how, and why you do what you do, from your perspective. When an artist speaks from the heart about how this art came to be and why it had to be made, this is when art changes minds, moves people, and even becomes unforgettable.

This means that an artist statement is personal, as personal as your art. It is also honest, in the very same way that your art reflects a true expression of your being. Because an artist statement speaks to the relationship between you and your work, it needs to be as authentic as your work. When done well, the statement and your art support each other.

  •     Be honest and open
  •     Speak in your own voice, and
  •     Write as you would speak
  •     Keep to the facts
  •     Keep it simple and concise
  •     Use active sentence form
  •     Keep it reasonably brief – 150 to 300 words

For Content

  •     Share the ideas behind your work.
  •     What's your creative process or technique?
  •     Your philosophy as it is expressed in your art.
  •     The meaning of your work.
  •     Symbols, metaphors, analogies.
  •     Themes and underlying causes or issues.
  •     Life’s experiences and their influences on your work.

Artist’s Bio

For the purposes of the Gallery of, the Artist’s Bio should be around 150 words and should focus on pertinent professional and artistic information. Artist’s Bio’s are often placed on foam-board cards next to the artist’s work during exhibitions and are also used for the website in the Gallery Artists sections.

The Artist’s Bio can be drawn from and should complement the statement and can also provide some historical perspective about the artist’s education and artistic journey. You should display your expertise as an artist. You are an expert on your art, so write about yourself and your work in a way that will draw attention and support your position as the creator of incredible art.
