Great composition, texture, detail and line. Obviously the color is a factor in the success of this photo, but there is also a surprise element that it takes a second or two to realize what the subject is.

Love the overhead perspective! The perfectly squared up lines counterbalanced by the shadow of the goal post really makes the image. It would not be nearly as effective an image without the shadow.
